Formed in 1985 by singer Gary Cherone and drummer Paul Geary, Extreme recorded their self-titled album on A&M records in 1989. Along with guitar hero Nuno Bettencourt and bassist Pat Badger, the group enjoyed moderate success until their second release, “Extreme II: Pornograffitti,” in 1990 earned them a number one hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 with the smash acoustic song “More Than Words.” “Whole Hearted,” from the same album reached number four on the same chart, solidifying Exteme’s position as a viable player in the arena rock circuit.
